checkstyle 4.4 has been released

Fixed Bugs:

* checkstyle-all.jar contained some classes from jakarta commons-collections twice. (bug 1630361)
* Multiple string literal check now ignores annotations by default (bug 1560940). It is possible to retain the old behaviour by setting the new check property ignoreOccurrenceContext to an empty value.
* The calculated value of NPath complexity was subject to integer overflow, so complex code was not always flagged (bug 1654769).
* Fixed misleading documentation for BooleanExpressionComplexity check (bug 1579227).
* Fixed Java parser error for array brackets in wildcard generic types (bug 1394014). Thanks to Paul Constantinides for submitting the fix (patch 1422247).
* Fixed false alarm in HideUtilityClassConstructor check when class has only static methods but contains non static fields (bug 1762702).

New features:

* Allow to control the operator token types in BooleanExpressionComplexity check (in response to bug 1579227).
* Added an entry for Checkstyle-IDEA on the home page.
* Set the failureProperty with a meaningful message (feature request 1725475).
* Add a url option for ImportControl check. Thanks to Benjamin Lerman for the patch 1724683.
* Moved source control over to Subversion.

* New ?server-sent events? (events fired by the server) option.

* Added a new AJAX timeout parameter when registering listeners, this value is used to stop an AJAX request too slow.

* New ?unrender? methods added to renderer interfaces to clean used resources bound to markup before this markup is removed. The Feature Showcase “Free List Compound” example now uses this method.

* ContinueEvent, UserEvent, TimerEvent events are now W3C DOM Event extensions.

* Changes on nested templates are now detected and parent templates are automatically reloaded.

* Added an online tutorial of how to build a basic ItsNat AJAX application using the core level of ItsNat. See ?Support? section on the web.

Open Source Testing launches community donations programme

Open Source Testing has launched a community donations programme. The first recipients of $100 donations are load testing tool Curl-loader, which recently celebrated a successful first year of development, and a popular defect tracking old-timer, Bugzilla.

So what’s behind all of this? Well, during 2007 Open Source Testing has begun to generate fairly regular revenue. It has always been my aim, should the site become commercially viable, to put some profits back into the open source community. I will be aiming to make bi-monthly donations (funds providing) to open source testing projects and open source organisations of my own choosing. The donations will not be earth shattering, but whether they cover hosting and hardware costs, contractor costs, publicity, trips to events or just some extra motivation, they will certainly make a difference.

Here are some details on how these two particular projects will be spending the money.

- Bugzilla donations help to pay for project expenses such as registration fees at trade shows, bug bounties and other project needs.

- Curl-Loader have requested that this donation is given a bonus to Michael Moser for his work on a new scripting language for HTTP/FTP response body analyses. This is normally achieved using JavaScript, which occupies a total thread, is blocking and is bad for performance. However, Curl-Loader have lofty ambitions - to deliver an open-source alternative to Spirent Avalanche and IXIA IxLoad - and Michael’s new language will make real advances in their ability to efficiently simulate tens of thousands of users with their own IP address.
